escalante - day three

Day three we headed west and tried out Willis Creek slot canyon. The drive on the Scenic Byway 12 was so beautiful. So much to see in all the land formations.

When we got there, the weather was a little cold, so I was worried it would be a bit miserable. But like the couple days before, it just ended up being so beautiful and perfect weather for hiking. We had a great time adventuring through these slots, which allowed for easier breathing and not hard for some of us who are a little more claustrophobic.

It was fun jumping over the little stream of water that ran through the canyon. The kids found lizards again and lots of rocks to climb on.

:: and this is the number one reason I love family adventures ::

We ended up spending more time at Willis Creek that we didn't leave as much time for Kodachrome Park. It was beautiful and I'm happy we went, but it wasn't my most favorite park. However, I think it's because we felt rushed and knew we still had to drive for a while to get back to Escalante. So I don't think I gave it a fair chance :) We'll just have to check it out again!

We did meet the most lovely couple from Germany though. That was probably my favorite part. Such cool people and I even tried to say a couple of my German phrases that I know. They said good job, but I think they pittied me, ha ha! Guten Tag. The lady was so sweet and said we should have a family picture and took this picture for us. I adore her for that! We're making our way to Germany someday!

:: these kids ♥♥♥ ::

Before we went back to our campsite, we stopped for shakes and slushies, that may have been the kids favorite part!

But the sun going down and that full moon!! THAT was the perfect ending to our last night. ♥♥
(We also loved sharing a big pot of beef stew in our tent!!)

escalante - day two

Day two we had a hot breakfast and headed into town. The weather was not looking promising for adventuring so we came back to our tent and set up a table so that we could have lunch and play games while the rain was pouring outside.

Lucky for us, it passed fairly quickly and we headed to our hike of the day. Calf Creek Falls was incredibly beautiful. So much green among the red sand. There was a couple of times we needed to find shelter because of the scattered rain, but in the end we didn't get nearly as wet as we feared.

Several of the boys made it to the waterfall before us. They came running back up the trail to get us and told me to close my eyes and they would lead me to the waterfall. Taylor kept saying it's SO amazing! Once we got there, he told me to open my eyes to the most glorious waterfall. The last picture here is that waterfall. ha ha :) He thought it was hilarious!
