McCammons - Day 2 (fourth of july)

Traditionally we have been going to our city's parade the morning of the fourth, but there were several people in our group that weren't to keen on the idea. So we did the next best thing...surprise, we headed to the mountains. Jen has really missed the mountains a ton, so we told her we would be happy to hike as much as she wanted to :)

We headed to our favorite area at Snow Basin and hiked all the way up to the Ogden Overlook. The kid were all rockstars! Driving home, Ainsley introduced us to two songs that became two of our favorite songs for the summer (I wish I knew how to find cool music by myself, ha ha) Shotgun and Count on Me ♥♥

We came back for an All-American Barbecue...my favorite ♥ and then headed off to see the fireworks. We loved the live band (they sang Sweet Home Alabama!) and we all just sang and played...and then a crazy, super quick (thankfully) storm passed by and we hid under the blankets. The fireworks were slightly delayed, but as they started going off to all the music (God Bless America, A Sky Full of Stars, Battle Hymn of the Republic), I just looked around me and felt so grateful for so much!

7.4.2018

The fourth makes me so happy and this year was no different! ♥♥

Daddy, Corbin, and Taylor got back at 8:00 AM from their really quick backpacking overnighter. We got everyone dressed in red, white, and blue then headed out the door for our cities parade. The parade is way too commercialized, but they have the Davis Marching band and that always makes it worth it. The best part was seeing the jets fly right over us, now that was amazing!

We came back home and took naps and watched Jurassic Park. (I tried to get them to watch something more patriotic, like National Treasure, but I fell asleep and that's what was on when I woke up. :)

We had the yummiest barbecue at Mandi's house and spent the evening with them and Jon's parents. Afterwards we headed to the fireworks. The best part for the kids is when Imagine Dragaon's 'Thunder' came on during the fireworks! Adeline calls it her song. They also play 'My town' and 'God Bless America', so it was pretty amazing!

soaking up these summer days

This first picture makes me so happy and may be one of my favorite pictures of Justin and I... even though the camera lens on my phone was extremely dirty! :) And any time pictures are being taken in our home, the younger two always want to jump right in :)

Summertime has been so good so far. We have found a really good balance of laziness and adventuring. Last year we found ourselves in the mountains, a lot. And as summertime approached this year, that was the first thing on our list. It's just as good as I remember! Take me to the pine trees, aspens, wildflowers, streams, and lakes - and I'm one happy mama.

I meant to write out our '2018 summer live list' on paper and we're already one month into summer with no paper hanging up on the fridge. We've managed, but I still want to put one up. Why does summer have to go so fast?!

We still have lots of fun planned, but for today we are home and relaxing. There is a lovely overcast sky so the kids are outside building a fort under the stairs. Our sweet neighbor brought over popcycles for the kids and wow were they excited! We had one fight this morning where four kids were leaving out one of their siblings. He cried, they felt bad, and now they are all playing together. Every summer for the past few years I keep thinking this is probably the last summer it will be like this, but somehow I keep lucking out!

We are planning on wearing red, white, and blue all week. Tonight Justin and the older boys are heading up to the mountains for a quick overnight backpacking trip. They'll be home in time for our city's parade, a bbq at Mandi and Jon's ♥♥♥, fireworks, and a review of The Declaration of Independence. This time of year is my favorite!!
(along with Easter, Memorial Day, Fall, Thanksgiving, Christmas) :)

I have lots to catch up on, but in the meantime we're going to keep on soaking up these summer days! ♥♥♥

7.4.2017

We had a happy fourth. Flag pancakes and parades. Bead Necklaces and free donuts. Tin foil dinners and apple pie. Sparklers and fireworks. And plenty of red, white, and blue with people I love.

♥♥ This country is my favorite ♥♥
