remembering back a couple months ago

I was going through some pictures from the summer and felt so happy seeing these.

We wanted to try the shaving cream down the water slide activity. That part didn't work so well, but just running around spraying the cream all over was way better.

Oh how we love those cousins.

Summer was good, but I have a feeling that fall will be even better.

what a one year old's birthday looks like

It's just about like every other day. Wake up, eat breakfast, take a bath, play, take a nap, play games with brother and grandma, eat mini burgers for dinner, eat a banana, tear things open, eat treats, get super messy, take another bath, get in jammies, watch the sunset, have a bottle before bed. All pretty typical. But hopefully this day our baby felt a little extra special. Because he is.

levi's day he turned five

It's so fun to have a day to focus and celebrate each kid.
levi's day included breakfast in bed, dog piling levi, brother's candy bar poster gift, opening presents, playing all day, helping to make iron man cake and angry bird cupcakes, (because he really wanted both) corn dogs for dinner, cousins and a friend come over for cake and ice cream, tired but so happy to actually be five!

Now he keeps asking if he's 5 1/2. buddy, please don't grow up too fast.

weekend wordage

princess and the frog movie night. yard work before the sun came up. first soccer game. home depot run for some wood to make shelves. second soccer game. nap. boys playing with friends. play downstairs all morning. 1:00 church now. starving. roasted veggie minestrone soup and biscuits. no school no work monday. cutting wood at awesome neighbors house during a downpour. boys and friends playing and laughing to their hearts content in that rain. much needed visit with my sister. ikea run (daddy would rather hang out in jail than be at that store). delicious dinner with grandma and grandpa.

As you can see this is something new that I hope to continue. I got the idea and approval to borrow this idea from my amazing sister-in-law.  My hope is that years down the road we can sit together as a family and look at what simple weekends were like when the boys were younger. The boys already LOVE looking at  old posts. It makes me happy. It's why I continue to blog.

and just like that

These boys are off to school. Leaving me and our baby home all by ourselves. Summer has left us in the dust and now we are trying to remember what it is like to have a bedtime and to not have homework, to wake up earlier and actually get dressed before noon. It's tough, but I think we'll manage.

Still a little shocked that he's in the 4th grade.
This sweet boy has practically gone from my superman loving boy to the 2nd grade in one quick blink.
and don't even get me started on this kindergartner.
Now it's just me and our baby, and I can't even hold him right now to help console me because he's asleep.
(guess I'll take that shower I've been meaning to take.)
